BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has reached a milestone in the deliveries of its Smart Driving Edition models, as the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker has focused a significant portion of its efforts on software this year.

As of July 6, the company's Smart Driving Edition models equipped with the God's Eye smart diving systems have surpassed 1 million units in cumulative deliveries, BYD announced today on Weibo.

BYD is set to release its largest-scale smart driving OTA (over-the-air) update, promising safer and smarter experiences, the company said, without providing further details.

The company refers to its smart driving systems as God's Eye. The top-tier God's Eye A system uses DiPilot 600, which employs three LiDARs and is primarily used for the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang.

The God's Eye B system uses DiPilot 300, which employs one or two LiDARs and is primarily used for the Denza brand and some of BYD's high-end models.

The God's Eye C system's smart driving solution is DiPilot 100, which does not use LiDAR but instead employs a camera-based visual solution, targeting BYD's more affordable models.

Since then, BYD's models on sale have primarily been Smart Driving Editions, with discounts offered for non-Smart Driving Edition cars to clear inventory of older models.

BYD sold 382,585 NEVs in June, the highest figure so far this year, according to data released on July 1.

In the first half of the year, BYD sold 2,145,954 NEVs, representing a year-on-year increase of 33.04 percent.
